2007 was another successful season for our hunters and a pivotal year for our strategic plan to make Hadley Creek the absolute best option for hunting free ranging trophy whitetails. Weather was again the major factor influencing buck movement. Change was the norm and weather
patterns never seemed to remain stable for more than two or three days. Still, as you’ll see in the 2007 photo gallery, we were able to consistently put big bucks on the ground during all our seasons and the average size inceased by several inches.
We continued to invest heavily in our operation by adding substantial numbers of tree stands, including 35 top of the line Texas style tower blinds that allowed us to put hunters into range of bucks that tend to use the middle of our large food plots. This was especially effective for our bowhunters. We added farm equipment and also added to our fleet of Bad Boy Buggies and John Deere
Gators to help us access distant stand sites on large acre tracts. We also invested in company trucks for our guides.
Our summer weather was challenging and forced us to plant the majority of our food plots twice and in some cases three times to make sure they were ready for the season. But perhaps the investment that received the most positive comments from our hunters was the upgrading of our food service. We've added a professional chef and our food quality has gone from good to excellent.
2007…A Pivotal Year
2007 was a pivotal year as Hadley Creek had more quality whitetail ground than we could
effectively use. This allowed us to hunt properties even lighter than in years past and some farms we idled all together. It also allowed us to begin a partnership with Drury Outdoors. While it’s been tempting in the past, we chose not to use outdoor shows to promote Hadley Creek until we were absolutely certain we had the land and organization necessary to do so without having any impact on our hunters. We’re excited about the relationship as we believe Drury’s is the best in their field.
More Hadley Creek clients opted to hunt our 140 minimum management areas in 2007 and more hunters on all our properties
chose to pass on 130 class bucks. In 2008 the 140 minimum will be the standard for all Hadley Creek hunts and it’s a major step towards accomplishing our overall quality goal. The most important deer we can let walk is the 130 class two year old ten point as one more year can put him into the true trophy category.
We’re excited about the future of trophy whitetail hunting at Hadley Creek and are looking forward to another excellent season in 2008.
