We recently added nearly 40 new trophy whitetail photos to our 2015 Hit List page! Trail cameras are out in full force here at Hadley Creek Outfitters and we’re on a mission to capture as many of these big, Pike County, Illinois bucks as we possibly can.
At Hadley Creek, our goal isn’t to capture all of the deer on our farms. With the amount of land that we manage, that would be simply impossible. However, we have a few goals that we hope to achieve by putting in all of these hours managing trail cameras.
Our first goal is to get a sampling of the deer that are on each of our farms. We can’t capture them all, but it gives us a good idea of what’s out there and how our bucks are looking this season.
Second, and our primary goal, is to begin patterning these big bucks at a very high level. By keeping regular tabs on trail cams throughout the late summer and fall, our guides have a good idea of when and where these trophy whitetail deer are moving on a daily basis. Of course we can never know exactly when and where a buck will move. But high-level patterns can point us in the right direction; how much are deer moving at night and what are they doing during the day? Will we hunt timber, trails, field edges, etc.? Trail cams help guide us in some of these decisions.
Next, trail cam photos help us guide and educate our hunters on the mature bucks in the area so that they meet our minimums. A 140” (or 4 ½ year old) minimum is strictly enforced on all of our hunts. Trail cam photos are an excellent tool to coach our hunters on the age and size class of our bucks.
Finally, these trail cam photos of trophy whitetail bucks are just plain fun! They get us and our hunters excited about the upcoming deer hunting seasons.
